Our journey of faith for our work with orphan children began many years ago with my first trip to Haiti in 1998 where I spent a week working with underprivileged children at a feeding center near Port Au Prince for a week. My heart was moved and I knew I wanted to help more.
Our second trip included Bill and we went to work for 2 weeks at a summer camp for orphan children outside St Petersburg, Russia. Bill had the same feeling of wanting to do more. Our third trip was to Kenya. We spent a lot of our time touring many place to see if we could find a way to help and once we came back to the US, we knew what we needed to do. Our calling was to help their smallest victims of AIDS in western Kenya. We started our organization, Orphan Relief Effort in 2001 and over the next 10 years we built a home in Awasi, Kenya for girls that were orphaned by AIDS and we supported them and helped the community at large by helping to build schools, churches and many other small projects. We had 72 girls living at our home. In 2009, we had to end our relationship with this work but we knew we were not finished working with orphans. So beginning in 2009, we started our work in Kathmandu, Nepal and we started with 6 children. We are now up to 15 children and they are doing great. Our home is now also registered with the government of Nepal and our additional children came to our home from referrals from the government. In 2010, we started a second home in Myanmar with 20 children and we have seen a big difference in their lives with better health and better grades at school because of the improvement in nutrition. We look forward to watching these relationships and children grow and prosper.
We have seen God accomplish much during this journey and we are looking forward to where He will take us and these children in the future.
